Senior Surveyor - Customer Connections, New Infrastructure (Wales / Central England)

National Grid is looking for a Senior Surveyor to lead on the delivery of new infrastructure projects within its Customer Connections team. The infrastructure projects across England and Wales are helping to connect more renewable energy to homes and businesses.
You'll be part of a diverse land team providing expert land rights and acquisitions services required for new electrical assets for National Grid. This will be in accordance with current legislation and guidance, best practice and procedure, to ensure National Grid adheres to its licence obligations.
In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. Your portfolio of projects will be predominately located in Wales and Central England. Therefore, a Welsh / Central base location would be preferable.
Key accountabilities
Deliver all land rights and acquisitions for infrastructure projects from development to construction, including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
Implement National Grid Lands Rights Strategy (and other supporting policies and procedures) in a transparent, credible, consistent and economic way.
Report on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract and financial management on a regular basis. This includes being able to identify and distil complex land issues in a succinct and clear way in regular reports to the ET Property leadership team, Senior Project Managers and Project Directors.
Manage (often competing) internal/external stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements.
Procure and manage external resource to deliver required lands activities.
About you:
Experience of delivering land activities for new infrastructure projects including access to land, the acquisition of land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to support overall project delivery.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills to ensure effective engagement with all relevant stakeholders (internally and externally).
Experience of providing project and contract management services as part of delivering land acquisitions and land rights projects.
Knowledge and experience of the legal and regulatory parameters that National Grid work within, including the range of statutory powers available, understanding how these then relate to the relevant project strategy and approach.
Knowledge of the consenting regimes and processes relevant to complex linear projects. This includes the Planning Act (2008) Development Consent Order and Compulsory Purchase Order processes and practice including the compensation code.
A willingness to train to develop expert witness expertise.
Preferably degree qualified (or equivalent) in a related discipline and/or working towards AssocRICS, MRICS, FRICS or FAAV.

Land Surveyor Higher Apprentice

As an apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience and knowledge in various lands teams. You will be on a 5 year programme, working towards a L6 Chartered Surveyor degree Apprenticeship, accredited by RICS, our programme will lead you towards achieving chartered status. Throughout the apprenticeship, you'll attend university for 8-week block placements, covering the essential skills and behaviours needed for success.

GCSE’s in Maths & English at grade 5 or higher.
