BAME in Property is pleased to support Binti Period, a charity that ensures every girl has menstrual dignity. Through teaching vulnerable women in India how to make their own pads, to providing free period products in public places, Binti’s mission is to deliver menstrual dignity with cultural awareness and context in mind, around the world.

For generations, planning policy has failed to adequately consider women’s toilet and menstrual needs. From long queues outside female toilets in public places, such as train stations and theatres, toilet space has generally been provided equally for men and women. However, just because it is equal, does not mean it is just; women have different needs and often require more time in the bathroom.

BAME in Property believes that the property industry has a crucial role to play in delivering safe and accessible toilets, particularly for women. From questioning design space to ensuring gender-neutral toilets are not the only option for women, planning policy must consider women’s needs in design evolution.

Our work with Binti involves working with the property industry to highlight good design and campaigning for menstrual products in public places. Individuals can also sign up for menstrual training, after which they will have the necessary knowledge to teach pupils in schools around the world.

This is not only to support vulnerable people but due to our social responsibility - going beyond bricks and mortar and supporting the development of thriving communities.

We support our charity partner through contributions from our paid corporate services, advocacy and pro-bono assistance. All of our networking events are free, so if you’d like to make a small donation to our charity partners when you attend an event, it will always be appreciated and a little can go a long way.
